Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Center
Ventspils University College of Engineering Institute “Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Center” (VSRC) is a science education center specializing in the implementation of high-quality future research services in the fields of space technology and signal processing science.
VSRC cooperates with various Latvian, Baltic and foreign universities and organizations to implement various projects, promote the development of the industry, including radio interferometry research together with EVN network partners, as well as training doctoral students and physics students and building the experience of young specialists in various scientific fields. Several departments have been established at VSRC, including: • Remote Sensing and Discrete Signal Processing Department, which develops specialized methodologies for transforming remote sensing data into information products, researches and tests remote sensing data processing methods, and develops software; • Electronics and Satellite Technologies Department, which conducts research in satellite engineering, modern antenna technology, cyber-physical and embedded systems; • Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, which conducts research on the interstellar and circumstellar environment, the mathematical theory of polarized radiation transfer and active galactic nuclei, research on the physics of the solar atmosphere and studies of small bodies in the Solar System; • Department of High Performance Computing, which conducts research in engineering physics, radioastronomical data processing and the development of their methodology, as well as research on near-space. The task of the VSRT technical service is to ensure the continuity of operation of the RT-32 and RT-16 radio telescopes, ensure their compliance with the requirements of the EVN network, and support the implementation of research projects implemented by VSRC.
